'Taiwan Blue Magpie in a Tsou Headdress' Print

30.00

A Taiwan Blue Magpie (台灣藍鵲) wearing the headdress of the Tsou - one of Taiwan’s aboriginal people.

This painting, completed in acryla gouache, was inspired by a folk story I heard whilst in Taiwan. The Taiwan Blue Magpie saved lives by bringing fire to the top of Jade Mountain to keep people warm, dying her beak and feet red in the process. She died and became a goddess to the Tsou people, this hat is often worn by young women (& is this amazing and colourful in real life as it is in the painting!)
